Dechreuodd y cyfarfod am 09:30.
The meeting began at 09:30.

Cyflwyniad, Ymddiheuriadau, Dirprwyon a Datgan Buddiannau
Introductions, Apologies, Substitutions and Declarations of Interest

Mike Hedges: Bore da. Good morning. Can I welcome everybody here to this committee? I’m a living example of the Harold Wilson dictum,

‘A week is a long time in politics.’ [Laughter.]

I started off this time last week as Chair of the Petitions Committee. This time this week, I’m chairing my first meeting of the Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee. Can I say how very pleased I am to be here? I’m very pleased to chair the committee and equally pleased to see a number of friends and colleagues in different parties who are in here. I’m sure that I’ll do my best and I’m sure everybody will do their best to help me, especially in the early days. Thank you all very much. Can I also welcome Gareth Bennett—another example of a week being a long time in politics, because this time last week, Gareth and I were both on the Petitions Committee—so can I welcome you to this committee, Gareth?

Gareth Bennett: Thanks.

Mike Hedges: I hope you enjoy it. That is my welcoming part. Are there any apologies? And there are no substitutions. Any declarations of interest? No. Thank you all very much.

Papurau i’w Nodi
Papers to Note

Mike Hedges: Can I take you on to the first item on the agenda, which is papers to note. The first one is additional written evidence received from Natural Resources Wales on the management of marine protected areas in Wales. Everybody happy to note it. Nobody wants to raise anything on it. No. Thank you.

The second item is a letter from Blaise Bullimore following the committee’s evidence session with the Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs on the management of marine protected areas. Are we prepared to note that letter? Does anybody want to raise anything on it?

Huw Irranca-Davies: Chair, we can return to discuss that and anything relevant later on in the private session.

Mike Hedges: Yes, okay. And a letter from Wales Environment Link to the Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs on the committee’s report on the future of land management in Wales. Are we happy to note that? Okay.
